Partitioning Principles

Proper partition planning can improve system performance, data security, and management convenience. It is usually recommended to separate system, data, and backup storage to avoid single points of failure.

File System Selection

NTFS is suitable for Windows systems and supports large files and permission management; FAT32 has good compatibility but has a 4GB file limit; exFAT is suitable for mobile devices and cross-platform use; ext4 is the preferred choice for Linux systems.

Cluster Size Impact

Cluster size affects disk space utilization and performance. Small clusters save space but reduce performance, while large clusters improve performance but may waste space. Choose appropriate cluster size based on file types and sizes.

Backup Strategy

It is recommended to regularly back up important data using the 3-2-1 backup principle: 3 copies, 2 different media, 1 offsite backup. Reserve sufficient backup space when partitioning.
