Pixel Resolution Calculator

Calculate LED display pixel density, resolution, and related parameters

Display Parameters
Enter display pixel dimensions and pixel pitch to calculate related parameters
LED pixel and physical size formula
Pixel count and physical dimensions are linked by resolution and pixel pitch.
Total pixels = pixel width × pixel height
Megapixels = total pixels / 1,000,000
Physical width = pixel width × pixel pitch
Physical height = pixel height × pixel pitch
PPI = 25.4 / pixel pitch in mm
pixel pitch
Pixel spacing in millimeters
The center-to-center distance between adjacent pixels.
resolution
Pixel width and height
The number of addressable pixels across and down the display.
PPI
Pixels per inch
A density measure derived from pixel pitch.
How this pixel calculator works
Use this calculator to connect LED display resolution, pixel pitch, physical dimensions, aspect ratio, and density.
  1. Multiply pixel width and height to get total pixel count.
  2. Reduce width and height by their greatest common divisor to show aspect ratio.
  3. Multiply resolution by pixel pitch to estimate physical dimensions.
  4. Use the diagonal physical size to show approximate display size in inches.
  5. Convert pitch to PPI so LED density can be compared with other display types.

Important notes

  • Cabinet borders, mechanical tolerances, and module layout can change final physical size.
  • PPI is useful for comparison, but LED walls are usually selected by pitch and viewing distance.
  • Video processors and source devices must support the resulting resolution and aspect ratio.
LED pixel examples
These examples help connect resolution targets with physical LED wall size.

Full HD LED wall

A venue wants a 1920 × 1080 canvas for standard video playback.

  • Resolution: 1920 × 1080
  • Pixel pitch: 2.5 mm

Physical size is about 4.8 m × 2.7 m.

A smaller pitch gives the same resolution in a smaller physical footprint.

Large stage backdrop

A stage screen prioritizes scale over close-up text detail.

  • Resolution: 1536 × 864
  • Pixel pitch: 4.0 mm

Physical size is about 6.14 m × 3.46 m.

Larger pitch can produce a large screen without requiring extreme pixel counts.

Control room display

Operators need dense data and readable labels.

  • Resolution: 3840 × 2160
  • Pixel pitch: 1.2 mm

High pixel count supports detailed dashboards at closer distances.

For text-heavy content, resolution and viewing distance matter as much as total size.
